Why I Did it Anyway!

August 22, 2014 Leave a Comment

On Sunday I set off to do what I thought was impossible for me. Finish a half marathon. Why impossible? I had all the good reasons: my ankle that is not yet fully healed, I have done very little high impact training (walking and running on the real ground) in the last two months and to be honest, its me- I hate running why would I do this to myself?

So why did I do it?  I did it because one of the many things that I have learned over the last 4 months of training, is that what we think is impossible is all to often simply in our head.

I set myself a goal every day of the last 96 straight days that I have been working out (I know I cant believe it either) to do one thing, a small thing that I thought I could not do. Go a little farther, a little faster, one more exercises when I think I have nothing left in me.  What I learned was that I was WRONG, ,95% of the time when I was SURE I could NOT do it, the truth was I could.

I have stayed committed to proving myself wrong over and over again. Changing the story that I can’t do it. My reasons why I could not do it were endless and all logically right. What I did not originally understand was that there are always alternatives.  Just because you can’t do one thing, does not mean that you cant find something of equal valve that will work. Does it require more work, more creativity – yes, but IT IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE.  You just need to make the choice.

So I made the choice every day leading to race day, and no it was not always easy. On the morning of the race I knew that I had succeeded no matter how far I got. I had made a promise I would stop if my ankle hurt and I kept my promise, but it turns out what I struggled with for 10 out of the 13.1 miles was not my ankle- more about that next week.

In the meantime I will just share that I did finish and as you can see was and am very proud.

So I challenge you this week to make a choice, where in your relationship with your daughter do you think you are in an impossible situation? Where are you stuck and have all the right reason why it will never change?

Let me help you this week figure it out and click on the link to schedule a free strategy session so I can help you figure it out.

Wishing a restful wonderful weekend and for all those who have kids starting school – good luck

Much Love and Support
