How was your weekend? Did you get a chance to rest, connect or was it crazy and hectic? I often feel like when I look at the way I spend my time off it is a reflection of the way I am living my life and the interaction I am having with the world around me. It all gets magnified. As everyone here in the US was celebrating Memorial Day weekend, I (together with the rest of the Jewish world) was celebrating the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, this holiday celebrates Moses coming down from the mountain with the 10 commandments. A holiday full of learning and reflection. I love this holiday as for me it represents going back to basics.
As I participated in community wide all night learning I decided to go to a meditation that was offered. Sitting in a room with 40 other strangers I had never met I was given the opportunity to connect to my heart- the source and to god and to what explore what is really important to me. We were each on our own Journey yet sitting in the same space we were supporting each other with powerful energy.
Many questions popped in my head during that hour amongst them – What are my values? where am I spending my time? Am I making a difference and in what way? Am I finding ways to express whom I fully am and what I want to achieve? Questions I don’t often have the time to sit and contemplate.
The summer is fast approaching and as the school years winds down full of end of the year performances and celebrations I know for some of you the thought of having your kids at home for so long can be overwhelming, how do you stay sane as a parent on the one hand and on the other how do you make sure your teen does more then spend the summer on the couch watching TV, playing on the computer and going to the mall?
The summer is an amazing opportunity to teach your daughter how to create the life of her dreams. To teach her to identify goals and to make them a reality?
Using this opportunity to create a structure and support system to make this happen for your daughter is the foundation for success in every area of her life later on. Teaching her to identify what she wants and what is important to her and then helping her gain the tools and the practice in making it a reality is a skill that lasts a life time. It will take work on your part, but a much more fun and rewarding task then trying to get her to move off the couch!
To make this happen you need to prepare in advance taking the step to clarify goals, create a plan and make it happen.
If you would like some help finding out what steps you can take to make this happen in your home this summer check out my new article in BellaMia Magazine that just came out this week titled “Summer, An Opportunity or an Impending Disaster for You and Your Daughter?”
