A few weeks ago I wrote about the importance of choosing friends. I got many comments asking me to share about one of the other aspects of choosing friends, and that is letting friends go. In the same way that we want to help our girls understand the power of a good friendship, one that helps and supports them, and encourages them to be their best, we also want to help them identify when a friendship is no longer a friendship. To a teen girl, her friends define her world. And it can be a very painful process if she…
My Love-Hate Relationship with “Frozen” or How I Found Out I was Elsa
By now I am guessing that many of you are so sick of hearing the song “Let it Go” that you want to hide in a hole and come out when the craze is over. I finally went to see the movie about four weeks ago with my cousin. There were a bunch of teens sitting a few rows in front of us. They were singing all the songs, quoting numerous lines. and “Hmmming” and “Ahhing” in all the right places. They simply LOVE this movie, and there are a lot of great reasons to love it – from Elsa…
When I Stopped Hiding and Said “It is Time!”
As you may have noticed, I have been stepping through a lot of my own fear recently, and encouraging you to come along with me for the journey. As I discover every day, sometimes just making the commitment, setting up an action plan, and having accountability partners, to make sure I don’t step back into my old patterns, is enough. Before I even take my first step, my world is flooded with fabulous change. If I have not yet been able to convince you to give it a try (yes, I know it is hard!) maybe I can this week. …
Am I Really Going to Do What I Am so Scared Of ?
As I shared with you last week, I made a decision to join some of my fellow business- women and sign up and begin training for a race, taking place on Aug 17th 2014. This was not an easy decision for me. I am what one might call a professional non- runner. Although when I was growing up, I was very active in various sports from ballet to gymnastics, swimming team to Judo, the one thing I always hated, and still do, is running. Despite how great I was at push ups and pulls ups, handstands and diving, I just…
Enough with Creating Unrealistic and Unhealthy Expectations
Growing up in Israel, I had the opportunity to be involved in athletic classes from an early age – ballet, gymnastics, judo and swimming. Even today, there are not as many competitive leagues for kids and teens as there are here in the US. When I was younger, I would take every opportunity to participate in regional athletic competitions for my school. I mostly joined in because I loved it, but there was no real expectation that I win. When I did, everyone was happy, and if I did not, that was okay as well. Here in the US, the…
